OUR STORY

This was our beginning that started in November 2020 please take the time to read where Klean Eatz began and where we are now!!! No matter where you live, I (Kris) and my husband (Tom) believe you can find people who are growing clean sustainable food. Who is raising beef nearby? Eggs? Chicken? Clean vegetables? Clean naturally leavened sourdough bread. Have you ever asked yourself these questions. For Tom and I, it was a challenge to be able to find all this healthy food nearby nevertheless all in one place.

So with that passion in our hearts we decided to embark on a journey making clean local food available within arms reach, a place that would bring the local farmers and consumers together in one local place which was know as Klean Eatz Market. As we navigated through the hardships of high food costs and maintaining inventory in the market due to high minimums and shortage of products we found it unsustainable to keep the market open. Our sourdough is what we are know for and also what was sustaining the business and the most sought after, our sourdough had captivated the hearts of the community. We decided to sublease the market and cafe space making it to where we could continue producing our sourdough. You can now find us at multiple farmers market near the Central Valley and also up in Amador County. We continue to support local farmers as we have joined the board of directors of Farms of Amador and also Amador Farmers Market both of these organizations support local farmers and schools making gardens and education available to students and families in Amador County.

Our farms

Prior to opening Klean Eatz Market I (Kris) worked in the medical field as a technician where I took care of people who had chronic health problems, most of whom relayed upon modern medicine to keep them alive. I grew through that experience and recognized there was a better way and that I needed to do something different to help people, which I believe through healthy eating you can maintain a healthy lifestyle.

During this journey we have built a solid relationship with Cairnspring Mills who sources our grain and mills our wheat using a stone mill for our sourdough bread. Cairnspring has a passion to ensure local farmers remain financially viable as they face pressures of urbanization. They take advantage of growing wheat in a crop rotation scheme to rebuild soil health and break disease cycles without the use of pesticide, herbicides glyphosate or GMO’s. We hope as a community and with the support of our family and friends we can strive to become the change that becomes contagious.

Curious about what we’ve been up to?

In the process of opening Klean Eatz market we decided to get out in the community by selling our naturally leavened sourdough bread. We are firm believers in getting to know people through personal interaction, I decided it would be fun to deliver bread on my bicycle. By doing so I was able to share my bread and vision as I also grew in my relationship with my customer. We live in a small town of old fashion values where people truly appreciate getting to know each other and connecting on a deeper level.
